Jewelcrafting on a Junior Toon

10 Blood Elf Paladin, Jewelcrafting

So, I gave in and made my 3rd bank toon a Jewelcrafter. Since she’s level 10, she’ll be able to advance Jewelcrafting to 150, but no further until I commit to playing her to 20.

Prospecting turns out to be a skill learned a few levels into your Jewelcrafting training, instead of right away when you become a Jewelcrafter. Level 20? 30? Somewhere in that range. It takes a stack of 5 ore and destructs them in exchange for green+ gems which you can then use with a Jeweler’s Kit to craft necklaces and rings.

Whoa man, am I burning through copper ore and bars. Stacks and stacks of it… easily 8 stacks (160 ores), and I’ve done very very little prospecting (25 ore worth). I’m at skill level 48 right now, and can make a variety of +1 and +2 jewelry boosting agility, spirit, intelligence or strength. They’re all designed for mid-teen level toons. I don’t know if they’ll sell for anything at all over their vendor price, but seeing that the weekend is coming up, I’ll let you know how it goes.

21 Undead Priest, Questing Solo

Back in The Barrens again after a rest in Undercity doubling as a Small Silk Sack hawker. I’m now at Tailoring 206, and I was back up to 80% rested when I headed back to Crossroads at level 20. Knocking off a few easy peasy green quests first in Silverpine and then in Ratchet and Crossroads has bumped me up to 21. I’m 1/3 the way to 22 and still have 40% rest bonus to spend, so I should make it to 22 before my next rest stop.

Then again, I’m going away for 4 days as of tomorrow morning, so by the time I get back I’ll have a bunch more rest bonus to spend on all my toons. I can’t keep up with spending the rest bonus on this many toons, it’s great!

Karma points in a Party

I partied briefly with someone in Silverpine when we were both going after Rothide Ichor, and while it wasn’t a horrible experience, I did have to snicker afterwards - he (toon was he, who knows if he was a she or a he) was a level 14 Shaman, I, a level 20 Priest, and we were killing level 15 and 16 beasts (in other words, minimal healing needed, I was DPSing and casting the occasional Renew, and my DPS was contributing more to each kill). One green item dropped, we both rolled greed, and I won it. He proceeds to talk about the buddy he could have sent that to. While I did give him the level 13 +2 spirit cloak, remember that “Karma” addon I talked about using? Yah, he got dinged down five points, and I wrote brief notes to remind myself why, too.

I Love The Auction House

Between all my toons, I now have over 300g from selling “under level 40″ things in the Auction House. How many weeks ago was it that I had spent all my money getting my Blacksmith through the Armorsmithing quests? I love the AH!

But for now it’s time to deal with some RL interruptions to WoW…

Making the most of rest bonus on Warcraft

The accumulation of Rest Bonus is another motivation for me to have more than one toon going at any one time.

I picked up a new Addon today to replace my old, broken one from pre-2.0 patch. You can find XPextend here to try it out yourself. It changes your experience bars slightly to give you percentages of how much rest experience you’ve accumulated and how much experience you’ve accumulated towards your next level. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to give me any idea about how much time I need to wait in order for my rest experience to be at 100% like my old addon for rest bonus did, but beggars can’t be choosers, I guess.

18 Undead Priest

I spent all but 5% of my Priest’s rest bonus last night after my evening workout, and got myself up to 18, and trained with my new skills (one of which was New, and two of which were upgrades on existing things). I haven’t really taken much of a look at my talents yet (although of course I’ve spent the talent points), but I’ve been pondering my talent spec. I hear discipline/holy is a good route to go for a soloing-yet-instancing type, and I’ve been collecting +healing equipment now and then when I see it.

I think this weekend I’ll do my first instance with this toon, and see how the whole “healing and cleasing” thing goes. I’ll probably go into Ragefire Chasm (RFC) even though I’m a couple levels above its recommended start level (folks go in there at 12-14). I like to have confidence of strength over my opponents when I’m learning an experience. There’s plenty of chances for insane healing practice later on.

10 Blood Elf Paladin

I toyed around with her this morning and finished a couple of quests and burned off her 25% rest bonus in no time. I’m feeling happy that it takes a long time for rest bonus to build up and not long to burn it off on this toon because learning too many classes at once isn’t fun, and I’m happy to park this toon for a week and a half at a time while I learn the others.

42 Undead Warrior

I’ve spent about 150g on materials to help this toon through her 4-5 Armorcrafting quests, and thankfully they’re all done, and my toon is up to 243 blacksmithing. The “hear ye! hear ye!” shout that the Mithril Order guy did when I was admitted as an official Armorsmith was kinda neat as well, but I guess nobody was around to cheer for me… That’s what I get for playing at 9 AM on a Friday morning when most people are at work or school ;)

Now, I’m heading her back towards STV and Booty Bay area to grind on quests, but first…

61 Troll Hunter farms SFK

It’s time to restock some of my cash supplies. Since it’s the weekend, this is a great time to be selling things in the Auction House, so I decided to plow through a lowbie instance.

Shadowfang Keep has a reputation for having a bunch of low-level Bind on Equip (BoE) blues that can drop, as opposed to having a lot of Bind on Pickup (BoP) items that I’d only be able to disenchant, and not sell instead of being able to decide whether to disenchant for the shards or sell in the Auction House. Low-level is good, because people spend a lot of dough on twinking up their wee toons for PvP in the 10-19 and 20-29 brackets.

I almost wished I had an expert skinner tagging along with me, with all the wolves and the skinnable shadowfang corpses I was leaving about! This is definitely a great low level instance for those in the Skinning profession.

I still say it’s a crappy Hunter dungeon, however. Very tight quarters and tight turns mean a lowbie hunter with a wide aggro radius would have troubles being able to attack from afar without also aggroing other mobs.

Loot from Shadowfang Keep farming run

I ended up getting 4 or so blues, but they were all BoP so I disenchanted them (3 Large Glimmering Shards, 3 Vision dust, 1 Lesser Astral essence, 1 Greater Nether essence and 1 Large Brilliant Shard). Robes of Arugal even dropped, after I dropped Arugal without him blinking even once to another location in the room.

As for other items I could sell on the Auction House, I ended up with 6 BoE items (3 weapons, and 3 pieces of armor) plus a stack of Lean Wolf Flank (low level cooking mat) and nearly a full stack of both Linen and Wool cloth (the cloth I’ve kept for my alts, however).

So, I have calculated that if all of my shards and all of my BoE items sell for their buyout prices, I’ll get 25g from this run.

But wait, there’s more! I picked up about 1.5g in coins on the way through, and brought back approximatetly 1g worth of vendor trash as well. I’ll likely use up this bit of extra cash restocking arrows, however, so we’re back to this run having profitted me 25g.

Not too bad for about 50 min work (including travel time to get back to the AH and time spent listing and comparing current things for sale in AH)!

Tuning the Toons to One Toon’s Benefit

There are two main reasons I have 4-5 active, levelling toons:

- I crave variety
- I want to cover all the professions that intermingle

It’s very cool to have one toon that can create potions for all the other toons to use for various things, including the creation of weapons and armor.

It’s cool to have a leatherworker that can feed raw armors to Blacksmiths who can turn them into mail.

And of course, it’s cool to have a 60 that can farm mats for a lower level toon.

41 Undead Warrior

She’s a Blacksmith who is just shy of level 240, and who is halfway through her Armorcrafting quests. I’ve been using my bank toon to buy up (reasonably priced) stacks of Mithril Ores and Bars over the past few days, and using my 60 Hunter to farm Mageweave in Jintha’alor, and the BS has been sitting in Gadgetzan working on the Armorsmithing quests. Soon it will be complete, and that toon will go back to the grind of levelling, and probably start taking in a few instances more regularly.

61 Troll Hunter

I’ve done a lot of disenchanting, and a little bit of work with Knothide leather with my 300 LW/300 Ench. I’ve got the mats together for making an Arcanite Rod (BS 270 I think), but now have to find a Blacksmith who can put them together for me. I’ve got the mats for Runing the rod afterwards and can do that myself.

In the mean time, this toon has been exerting her power over lesser NPCs for the purpose of farming materials for my Warrior Blacksmith, and right now is heading to Felwood to prey on Entropic Beasts which are said to have a 12.7% drop rate of Heart of Fire… an ingredient needed to create an Ornate Mithril Breastplate, which is needed for one of the Armorsmithing quests.

10 Blood Elf Paladin

I’ve got some cool equipment coming up in this toon’s life. First, I’m going to funnel the equipment past my 300 Enchanter and get everything enchanted that can be enchanted, then I’ll send it on to my Pally.

All the Seals and stuff confuse me (I think I have three already) but one can always zerg their way through, with good enough equipment and enchants ;) When I care enough (and before I start getting into instances), I’ll do some research on Pally strategies and become less confused.

The rest of the toons got the night off with Real Life activities taking priority this evening. Ahh, but they rest in peaceful bliss, gathering rest bonus, which I will gleefully exploit another time.

Night all!
